Three city council seats are up for election this year, and nine candidates have declared their intention to run. As of Monday afternoon, four candidates had submitted their names: Cathy Brown, Jackie McLean, Ricky Sandy and Shelley Wilburn were on the ballot while two more, Josh Bain and David Conoly, registered right before News-Journal’s print deadline.
Bain is the third-generation owner of Raeford Hardware, founded by his grandfather and father in 1973. Since taking ownership three times over, he has expanded the store three times into its current 20,000 square-foot facility, featuring both new products as well as old favorites. Bain is actively engaged in his community as a Kiwanis member and Fall Festival board member; additionally he serves as volunteer coach with North Carolina High School Athletic Association as well as being an Eagle Scout.

The Chamber’s Economic Development Department strives to foster an entrepreneurial business environment by supporting existing and recruiting new businesses. An online job board is an excellent way for your chamber’s members to connect. Provide search features that enable job seekers to filter jobs by title, skill, part-time/full-time status and location; additionally include links back to member websites and allow logo inclusion in listings.

Kurt Posey has lived in Raeford for 11 years and is actively involved in Kiwanis as well as volunteering on the Fall Festival Board. Additionally, he’s involved with both Chamber and Board of Directors; additionally his family proudly operates downtown Raeford Hardware store!
Raeford-Hoke Business Expo had to be postponed during the pandemic; it will return on May 14. This event offers local businesses an opportunity to connect with job seekers while at the same time connecting with Chamber members free of charge; nonmembers pay $25 fee to set up an exhibit space. In future years, more resources may be added so both employers and job seekers benefit.
